WHBC celebrates ministries, approves budget, affirms Elders
West Highland Baptist Church held its first Annual Celebration Meeting (as outlined in its newly-approved Constitution) on Wednesday, September 22, 2010. In addition to reflecting on and celebrating the remarkable ministries that the Lord has made possible through His people this year, those present also approved the church budget for 2011.
Plus, those in attendance affirmed the following Elders to each serve two-year terms: Doug Grimm, Rev. Galen Lowery, Jeff Smith and Tracey Tomlins. [In addition, the Pastor serves on the Elder Ministry as the only Elder who is on staff.]
An Elder must meet the qualifications set forth in I Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and I Peter 5:1-4, as well as uphold high standards of participation, service, supportiveness, and financial support to the church. The purpose of the Elder Ministry is to guide the vision and spiritual health of the church.
As 1 Peter 5: 1-4 says: 1To the Elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: 2 Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

Our Pew Bibles were dedicated in memory of one of our beloved church members, Irma Moore, who has gone to be with the Lord.
If you are interested in a good daily devotional magazine, please pick up a copy of Our Daily Bread. You will find them in the Narthex or the pews.
We have a new "Constitution, By-Laws and Tools" document which went in effect on March 10th, 2010. If you need a copy, or if you would just like to review it, contact the Church Office. If you have access to the "Church Members Page" on this website you can download an electronic copy, along with training powerpoints, nomination forms, and other related documents.
Our church voted to adopt a new Purpose Statement, placing it in our constitution. We also agreed on a new "Vision" for the church, which could be described as, "what we want the church to be like in the future". To mark the occasion, and physically demonstrate our committment to the new Purpose and Vision, we constructed a stone altar, which was displayed at the front of the sanctuary. It was a symbol of our desire to work together toword a common vision, within the filter of a clearly stated purpose. "We’ve got an opportunity today. You’ve got your stones. Here’s your choice. Join me and leave your stones on the altar. And in doing so, say: "Today we recognize that God want’s to start something new. God want’s to start something new HERE, and we’re going to be a part of it...” For more information about the stones, see the "Vision Team" page, and click on "The Rock".
